The Golf Frassanelle represents a perfect blend of golf and a romantic park, where the course integrates almost timidly into the 19th-century park of the Papafava estate, camouflaged and embedded in the landscape. The numerous bodies of water scattered along the course embellish the scenery, making the game more challenging, all immersed in a unique and evocative environment.
The 18-hole course, designed in 1990 by Marco Croze within a magnificent 200-hectare 19th-century park, offers remarkable charm and is rich in fauna and flora.
The playing field is surrounded by the pleasant landscape of the Euganean Hills and is just a few kilometers away from the renowned thermal centers of Abano and Montegrotto.
Large open spaces, woods, and numerous bodies of water, dispersed along the course, enhance and beautify the panorama and make the game more challenging.
The 15th hole, a true “Signature hole,” crosses a large lake and leads to a green framed by majestic trees, highlighting the overlap of the playing course with the historic park.
The course, open for play since 1990, has undergone renovation and adaptation from an environmental sustainability perspective starting in 2014. The interventions have particularly focused on the turf and the tree heritage.
Regarding the turf, between 2014 and 2015, the conversion of fairways and tees from a mix of cool-season species to Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon x transvaalensis cv. Patriot) was carried out.
In addition to the gameplay and aesthetic benefits of this conversion, the environmental advantages offered by this species have been realized, as it requires less maintenance, using less water and fertilizers, and no chemicals.
The management plan for the tree heritage was initiated in collaboration with the Parks and Gardens Section of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Bologna. Thanks to this intervention, during the 2015 Open d’Italia held at Golf Milano, the Technical Scientific Committee of “Impegnati nel Verde,” an environmental program of the Italian Golf Federation, awarded Golf Frassanelle the Environmental Recognition for landscape protection.
