Its foundation dates back to the second half of the 10th century, but its current layout is from the 18th century by the architect Domenico Cerato.
Inside, it holds 17th-century sculptures by Tommaso Allio, the Flagellation on the main altar by Bartolomeo Litterini (1712), and a Stations of the Cross attributed to Carlo Henrici.
The bell tower dates back to 1314, with the base dating to the 10th century.
In the square adjacent to the church, Piazza del Sole e della Pace, one can admire the Meridiana: the largest polychrome marble sundial in Europe (covering an impressive 3000 square meters). Designed by Salvador Condé and planned with the support of architect Giulio Genta and gnomonist Giovanni Paltrinieri, it was completed at the end of 1996.
