The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located in Boccon, a hill town in the municipality of Vo’, at the foot of Mount Venda, in the heart of the Euganean Hills. It is one of the main religious and identity landmarks of the local community, with a history that dates back to the Middle Ages.
As early as 1297, a parish dedicated to the Virgin Mary is documented, which also held jurisdiction over the churches of Cortelà and Castelnuovo, indicating its ancient ecclesiastical importance. Over the centuries, the church was involved in the religious and institutional affairs of the area, until it returned under the Diocese of Padua in 1771, following the suppression of the monastery by the Republic of Venice.
The current building is the result of a reconstruction that took place in 1891, built on the same site as the medieval parish. The orientation of the church today is reversed compared to the original structure from the 15th century, in relation to the urban development of the town along the main road.
Despite the transformations, the interior retains important artistic testimonies from different eras: a 17th-century main altar and a 17th-century painting depicting the Dormitio Beatae Mariae Virginis. Thus, the church represents a synthesis of historical memory, religious continuity, and transformations of the urban landscape of the Euganean Hills.
