Screening of the film "Zustìssia" directed by Francesco Piras, making his debut as a director.
The film is inspired by the judicial case of Beniamino Zuncheddu, a Sardinian shepherd sentenced to life imprisonment in 1991 for a triple murder and acquitted in 2024 after more than thirty years of detention. The screenplay, written by Lisa Nur Sultan and Niccolò Gentili, is based on the book I am innocent, written by Zuncheddu himself along with his lawyer Mauro Trogu.
In 1991, following a triple murder that took place in Sinnai, Beniamino Zuncheddu is sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2016, lawyer Mauro Trogu is contacted by the man's family and decides to reassess the case, convinced of his innocence. The analysis of the trial documents reveals critical issues in the investigations and prompts the lawyer to undertake, together with his colleague and wife Elisa Osanna, a pro bono battle to obtain a review of the trial. The story reconstructs the judicial path that leads to Zuncheddu's acquittal, pronounced on January 26, 2024, after thirty-three years of detention.
