The term "vegro" describes a dry, stony, and unproductive sedimentary land formed by a calcareous substrate, especially limestone debris. A parched meadow with a discontinuous herbaceous cover and scrub (hawthorn, broom, ...). In the Euganean Hills, the most important areas in terms of size are located at the foothills of Mount Cecilia, the southern slope of Mount Calbarina, and the places Mottolone and Sassonegro.
Due to their high function in maintaining biodiversity, the "vegries of the Euganei" have been recognized at the community level as habitats to be protected. Notable are the blooms of wild orchids belonging to different genera and, in some of them, also for the presence of Ruta Patavina.
