Back in Venice from Naples, Lelio Bisognosi wants to indulge in the good life and becomes infatuated with Rosaura, the daughter of Dr. Balanzoni. Ignoring the advice of his servant Arlecchino, he woos the young woman by weaving a series of lies, which ensnare his acquaintances and, initially, even the elderly Pantalone, his father, who he has not seen in twenty years. In the end, however, the liar will fall victim to his own deceptions.
