La commedia in due atti è ambientata in casa di Felice Felicini, pensionato da poco, che vive con la moglie Marisa un rapporto logorato dal tempo e privo di entusiasmi e passioni. Il menage familiare è interrotto da una improvvisa e inaspettata eredità, da parte di una fantomatica signora che prima di morire decide di lasciare a Felice, che diventa il leitmotiv di tutta la vicenda.
