Early 18th century. The Ospedale della Pietà is the largest orphanage in Venice, but it is also an institution that trains the brightest orphans in the study of music. Its orchestra is one of the most renowned in the world. Cecilia is twenty years old, has lived at the Pietà her whole life, and is an extraordinary violinist.
