Built over 800 years ago and standing over 22 meters tall, the oldest tower of the Valbona Castle houses some of the most inaccessible and private areas of the castle, such as the Captain's room, where the commander of the garrison stationed in Valbona resided.
Access is via a narrow and steep right-handed spiral staircase, which, like the other architectural elements of the keep and the castle, was designed to facilitate the defense of the fortress against potential attackers.
For the brave who wish to climb to the top, the keep offers the surprise of a breathtaking panorama that, on clear days, reaches as far as the ancient Scaligeri and Carraresi domains and the small and large Dolomites.
The path is accessible without reservation from Wednesday to Sunday, with continuous hours from 10 until sunset. Audioguide available in Italian, English, and German, accessible directly from your smartphone.
