The film The Taster, directed by Silvio Soldini, is an intense drama based on the novel of the same name by Rosella Postorino and inspired by a shocking true story. Set in the autumn of 1943, the plot follows the events of Rosa (Elisa Schlott), a young woman fleeing from a Berlin devastated by Allied bombings. The girl manages to reach a small and isolated village near the eastern border, where she hopes to find refuge with her in-laws while awaiting her husband's return from the front. However, behind the apparent tranquility of the village, Rosa discovers a disturbing secret: in the bordering forest lies the "Wolf's Den," Hitler's headquarters. The Führer, obsessed with the fear of being poisoned, orders a group of girls from the village, including Rosa, to serve as tasters for the dishes being prepared for him. Initially, Rosa struggles to be accepted but manages to overcome the distrust, until something unexpected overwhelms her: an SS officer awakens in her the feeling of love. Or perhaps the simple need to feel alive, despite everything. With a cast that also includes Alma Hasun and Esther Gemsch, The Tasters explores survival, extreme moral choices, and the fragility of the human condition in wartime.
