The conference “The Abbazia di Carceri, shelter for works of art during the Second World War. Notes from the archive of the National Atestino Museum” will be dedicated to a little-known page of the history of the Abbazia di Carceri, scheduled to take place in the Hall of Frescoes of the Abbazia di Carceri.
The meeting, organized by the Abbazia Welcome Group and the Museum of Peasant Civilization of Carceri, offers an in-depth examination of the role played by the ancient monastic complex during the Second World War, when it became a refuge and protection for important works of art.
The evening will be curated by Dr. Alice Magnanin, art historian. Dr. Benedetta Prosdocimi, director of the National Atestino Museum, and Dr. Mauro Vigato, historian and archivist, will also speak. Through documents and testimonies preserved in the archives of the National Atestino Museum, it will be possible to reconstruct the events related to the protection of the artistic heritage during a period marked by war and destruction.
