One of the emblems of Abano's history is the Grand Hotel Orologio; this beautiful building was erected in the 18th century by the noble Dondi dell'Orologio and expanded in the 19th century with the addition of the neoclassical facade by Giuseppe Jappelli, who also arranged the vast garden that surrounds the hotel.
Currently, the historic hotel, surrounded by a vast park, is lived in only by the caretaker and is not accessible in any way by the community and tourists. The current owner is Enpam (National Institute of Pension and Assistance for Doctors) which has put it up for auction since February 2013.
It is a "five-star luxury" hotel complex, which once belonged to the "Leading Hotels in the World" chain. The hotel, featuring 165 rooms and 13 suites (of which 4 are imperial), was in operation until the beginning of March 2000.
