An anthology of authors from the 19th-century piano repertoire. The concert opens with the early Romanticism of Franz Schubert, represented by a Sonata in three movements, the first completed by the composer, rich in contrasts between the still classical form and the new Romantic sensibility. It then transitions to the nocturnal and salon style of Frédéric Chopin, which combines the Polish soul in the two Nocturnes with the French elegance of the Fantasy-Impromptu. The three Romances by Robert Schumann, a typical Romantic composer, serve as a self-portrait of his varied personality (the passionate, the dreamer, the wise). The concert concludes with the late-century Romanticism of Edvard Grieg. In the youthful Sonata in four movements, the composer’s Norwegian origins manifest in the evocation of suggestive Nordic atmospheres. Reservation Required – Limited Seating. • UNNUMBERED SEATS •
