The Schivanoia waterfall, the only true permanent natural waterfall in the Euganean Hills, is generated by the course of the homonymous stream along the Calto Contea.
It is a charming place, secluded from the traditional paths and reachable from the third bend uphill on the road that leads from Teolo to Castelnuovo, continuing on foot.
The small waterfall is known as the Schivanoia waterfall, named after the place where in the 15th century the wealthy Capodilista family owned vast land holdings and a summer house (in the past, the term schivanoia referred to places of leisure in the countryside).
To reach this lovely waterfall, one can start from the lowest of the 6 hairpin bends of the provincial road n°43 that goes from Teolo up to Castelnuovo, called “Speronella”: on the right, a dirt road leads down alongside an ancient chestnut forest.
Just before reaching a farmhouse, turn left onto a continually descending path that leads to a meadow. Keeping to the left, you continue among black locust trees and soon begin to hear the sound of water signaling your imminent arrival at the waterfall.
There is a shorter route to reach the Schivanoia waterfall, but with fewer parking options for your car.
The path actually starts at the 3rd bend of the SP43, where there is a small widening at the edge of the road. The path quickly enters the ancient chestnut forest; after a few hundred meters, you come to a fork where you must take a right and continue straight until a second fork, where you must turn left instead. In a short time, you reach a large meadow, keeping to the right as you go around it, and at the end continue on the left, along the winding and narrow path among the black locust trees, which takes you in just a few minutes to the waterfall.
