Life Nature Site, the San Daniele Biotope takes its name from the nearby hill and represents a typical example of a wetland with high naturalistic value. It is located in an area partly dedicated to sport fishing, also known as Lake Verde di Torreglia, and consists of some artificial ponds, remnants of a system of basins connected to the excavation of clay for the production of bricks. The reservoirs vary in depth, some with the bed flooded year-round, others partially drying out in summer; they are part of a system of collectors linked to the flow of two canals: the rio Calcina, originating from springs of M. Rua, and the Rialto drain.
Throughout the area between Torreglia, Abano Terme, and Montegrotto Terme, water tends to stagnate at the edges of fields and fills many ditches even in summer, creating conditions for the survival of numerous water-loving plant species, including some that are becoming rare, and others that are seriously threatened throughout the Po Valley.
Loop trail, suitable for disabled individuals as well. Along the route, a wooden elevated walkway has been created close to a body of water, with a sheltered rest point for observing birds.
In the area in front of the ponds, there are numerous native plants that create a green zone that encourages the settlement of animals typical of wetlands, in addition to those present in the reservoirs. Numerous species of water birds, reptiles, and amphibians now inhabit the Biotope.
