Bassifrequenze

30 June 2026 - h 21:15

Location: ABANO TERME (PD), Museo Villa Bassi

For the "Bassifrequenze, author music at Villa Bassi" review, the intense vocality of Lavinia Mancusi meets the Balkalà trio to explore the traditional melodies of the Balkan Peninsula.
Between tradition and improvisation, between soothing moments and energetic bursts, the varied repertoire of those lands testifies to a troubled history of cultural and population crossroads; sounding mysterious and fascinating to the ear of the Western listener.
The Balkalà Trio was born in 2022, originally named Balkan Duo, from the meeting of two musicians who have been exploring the musical traditions of the world, particularly the sounds of the Balkans and Eastern Europe, for nearly two decades. The strings of Giulio Gavardi (Ajde Zora, Mi Linda Dama, etc.) and the winds of Francesco Socal (Minimal Klezmer), along with the percussion of Rita Brancato for this occasion, come together in their shared love for the vitality and sense of freedom expressed by the traditional music of the Balkans, carriers of an expressive force so intense that it can communicate directly with the heart and body of listeners from every place and time.
Lavinia Mancusi, singer, songwriter, interpreter, and multi-instrumentalist. Her work takes place in the theatrical and musical field, especially of ethnic and popular origin. She is known to the public as a singer and multi-instrumentalist alongside songwriter Alessandro Mannarino, whom she has followed on tour in Italy and abroad since 2015. In 2019, she ranked among the four winners of the 30th edition of MUSICULTURA with the song Ninù, winning the critics' award “A certain regard” for the best performance and the Audience Award.
Also in 2019, with the song Donna Francesca, she won the Zonta Prize for author music at the Lilith Festival. In 2020, she was the author and interpreter of REVOLUCIONARIA!, a theater-canzone show focused on the lives of South American singer-songwriters Violeta Parra, Mercedes Sosa, and Chavela Vargas.
From 2019 to 2022, she interpreted the Mexican icon Chavela Vargas in the theatrical piece Viva la vida, with Pamela Villoresi directed by Gigi Di Luca (a production of Teatro Stabile di Napoli and Teatro Stabile di Palermo).
In July 2022, she performed alongside Fiorella Mannoia and Caparezza on the Campovolo 2022 Una Nessuna Centomila stage.
She has collaborated with some of the most important figures in Italian world music (Daniele Sepe, Lucilla Galeazzi, Olen Cesari, Eugenio Bennato) up to her latest collaboration with songwriter Francesco Guccini on the album Canzoni da Intorto released in November 2022.
